This study is purposed to examine the effects of the mindfulness based art therapy on pregnant women¡¯s pregnant stress and mental health. The variables to measure the women's mental health were cognitive flexibility, mindfulness, satisfaction with life(SWL), and life satisfaction expectancy (LSE). 26 pregnant women at S Pregnancy Center in Seoul were selected. An experimental group was consisted of 13 women and the other 13 were assigned to a control one randomly. The experimental group was received MBAT for about 90 minutes, two sessions every week, for 12 sessions. Pre- and post-tests of pregnant stress, cognitive flexibility, mindfulness, SWL, LSE, and person in the rain (PITR) scales were measured for both groups. Having used Mann-Whitney test and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test with SPSS program, the results showed that the experimental group was lower in pregnant stress and stress scores in PITR, and higher in cognitive flexibility, mindfulness, SWL, LSE, and resource and coping scores in PITR than the control one significantly. Furthermore, every post measure of the experimental group demonstrated significant positive changes. In sum, the effects of the MBAT on the pregnant women¡¯s pregnant stress, cognitive flexibility, mindfulness, SWL, and LSE were proved. Finally, implications and limitations of the research were discussed.
